Roy is one of the most successful Koi Keepers in the world. Winning the South African National show on many occasions and also his local Koi show in Durban many times. The hobby for Roy is all about keeping high class fish. Roy tries to buy 2 and 3 year old Koi and grow them himself in Japan and at home in South Africa. At this moment in time Roy has 5 Koi purchased from UKNishikigoi in Shintaro’s mudponds in Niigata.
With a collection such as Roys the Koi are very well looked after. Keeping Koi in South Africa is alot different to how we keep them in the UK. Roy actually has a cooler instead of a boiler to get the temperature down! Large Koi like Roy’s will show the same effects when the water is to hot that our fish have when really cold. They won’t feed and act sluggish when it’s too hot. This causes Roy and many other Koi keepers in South Africa many problems.
Roy has a major love for Matsunosuke Koi. He understands how these fish grow and turn out now. All his major price winners have come from this bloodline.
