This was a retro fit project and impossible to do exactly what we wanted to like add more bottom drains to the base. When it was originally built that’s all was put in. We ran both the bottom drains directly into Cetus sieves and recirculated the returns back into the pond.  This will give us a great flow rate which the pond never had in the past. We then drilled 2 x 4″ holes in the side of the pond and took each 4″ pipe straight into a Nexus 300, this will give the pond bacterial filtration where as the sieves will handle the mechanical side of the system. The pond has a massive slope into the drains so the returns now help push everything to the deeper end where the drains are.

We installed all the new filters and all the new pumps and pipework. The system now pretty much looks after itself. We will be adding more filtration to the pond, probably a Koi Shower in the spring.

Now the system is easy to work and the fish are starting to thrive in their new environment. The owner only likes the big fish and this kind of pond would only look good with the larger fish in it. A lot will be moved on next year and the owner will continue to add to his high quality collection.

“Within 5 days of new filters being fitted the water sparkled for the first time ever. The water is clearer than any pond I have ever seen. I had no idea how simple my filter system is to clean and operate. Its nothing compared to what I had to go through to clean it, Its fantastic!”
